My workshop

  • My workshop is the room that most resembles me in the house. So I wanted it to be bright and warm. I see my studio as an image of myself, a refuge, a place where I feel good. This is where I will dive into creating. So, I wanted this place as a place to dream, have fun and relax and I surrounded myself with light, I put candles, memories and quotes that inspire me.
  • To feel good, I surrounded myself with what I love: My favorite books, childhood memories, postcards, shells. I like having them around me, to rediscover what comes from childhood, the first dreams, the passions. And then bring nature in too: pebbles, dried flowers, feathers…And binoculars to observe birds from my window! Right now, the magpies are building their nests and I see them flying around, chattering.

I wanted this workshop to be designed to nourish me with my favorite quotes, inspiring images, artists who speak to me and the treasures of my loved ones.

My creative space: after many years where I took my equipment out on a corner of the table then had to put everything away and sometimes only brought it out after very long months, I finally have my own space! I took out ALL my equipment clearly visible, ready to use, practical. When the equipment remains stored in its box, I no longer think about it and if the box is horrible, I don't feel motivated. Having it in front of me really makes me want to play with it. Personally, what I don't see, I don't think about. So everything is at your fingertips:

-watercolor colored pencils

- Woody pencils

- Pencils

- Scissors and cutter

- Oil pastels

- Watercolor pastels

- Spray

- stamps and something to make impressions (bubble wrap, plastic cards)

- Brushes and brushes

- Watercolor paints

- acrylic paints

- White gesso

- Matte gel acrylic medium

When I'm not using my equipment and I want to free up space, I have a very practical trolley where everything is stored in glass jars and open boxes. All these colors make me want to have fun with them.

Even though I like and need to be surrounded to create, I have shelves under my desk with baskets filled with papers and magazines as well as materials that I need less like varnishes or hairspray For example. It is also in large drawers that I keep my supports such as my sheets of watercolor paper or my canvases.

For storing the papers I use for my collages, I have pretty boxes and baskets; When I'm stuck for inspiration, I organize them by color or texture and they're ready for a project.

I also have my materials for my GelliPlate printing plates stored in a basket with stencils, combs, bubble wrap, plastic grids, leaves, feathers, string and anything else I can use to create imprints.

The necessary items for cyanotypes are kept in another basket.

I have a notebook full of project ideas which is also always with me. Old magazines and old books found in flea markets which are sources of inspiration and which I use for my collages. Postcards, sheet music, tissue paper, wrapping paper, paper placemats for cakes, anything that comes my way that I can draw inspiration from.

My canvases and sheets of paper are stored in a cabinet with boxes (originally intended for a kitchen cabinet).

The video part:

I found some excellent advice on the Laly Mille website. Its configuration is light and reliable and I adapted it.

The office part:

I put my little white desk against the fireplace to clear the space. And my wall of inspiration is placed right above it. Essential for making myself smile, setting goals and reminding myself of them! It's also essential for me to have a place to work separate from the creative space because the teacher and the artist are not the same people!

After this little tour, the most important thing is how you will create your space to feel comfortable. However you organize yourself, the important thing is to find what helps you create.
